Truth In Leadership Thursday

June 19th, 2025

In my early years of leadership, I thought I had to have all the answers. I mistook authority for certainty and perfection for credibility. I micromanaged when I should have mentored. I held back questions I was afraid would make me look unqualified. And I carried the weight of every mistake like a badge no one asked me to wear.

The truth? I was learning on the job, just like everyone else.

What changed everything wasn’t a new title or a new training. It was being in an environment that supported growth over ego. A place where asking for help didn’t mean weakness, it meant wisdom. Being willing to grow mattered more than pretending you already had.

Now I lead differently. I own my missteps. I ask better questions. I surround myself with people who challenge me with grace and cheer me on without conditions. Leadership, I’ve learned, isn’t about arriving. It’s about showing up, learning out loud, and getting better as you go.

If you’re still learning, still growing, still getting it wrong some days, you’re not behind. You’re leading with truth.
