Truth In Leadership Thursday

There’s a hard truth I’ve learned as both a leader and a coach: you can’t grow what you won’t own.

In the early years, I thought leadership meant always having the answers. I micromanaged out of fear, avoided feedback I didn’t like, and mistook being “in control” for being effective. It wasn’t sustainable, because pretending doesn’t build trust, and performance doesn’t build connection.

What did shift everything? Getting honest.

Honest about what wasn’t working.
Honest about my blind spots.
Honest about how I was showing up.

The more I owned my part, the more I grew. Not in perfection, but in presence.

Leadership isn’t about getting it all right, it’s about being willing to get real, and then get better.

If you’re in a season of shedding old leadership habits or stretching into a new role, here’s your reminder: You don’t have to perform. You just have to be present—and brave enough to start telling the truth to yourself first.
