The Life You’ve Been Waiting to Enjoy Is Happening Right Now
Volume 2, Edition 4

For the longest time, I thought joy was something I had to earn.
Joy would come after the next promotion. After the degree was finished. After the house projects were complete. After the stress had settled down. After life became a little less complicated.
The problem is that there is always another project, another responsibility, another challenge waiting around the corner.
The past few weeks have reminded me of that.
Work has been demanding. Unexpected issues have required immediate attention. Decisions have needed to be made quickly. People have needed support. My calendar has felt full before the day even began. By the end of some evenings, I found myself wondering where the day had gone.
Many women know exactly what that feels like.
We spend years taking care of other people, solving problems, meeting deadlines, paying bills, managing households, building careers, and showing up for everyone who depends on us. Somewhere along the way, joy becomes something we postpone.
We tell ourselves we will slow down later.
We will take the trip later.
We will start the hobby later.
We will make time for friends later.
We will enjoy life when everything finally settles down.
What if later never comes?
That question has been on my mind recently.
A vacation, a walk in nature, an afternoon spent laughing with someone you love, or even a quiet cup of coffee on the porch may seem small. Yet those moments are often the very things that help us remember who we are beyond our responsibilities.
Joy does not have to be extravagant.
Sometimes it looks like watching a sunset.
Sometimes it looks like reading a book with no agenda.
Sometimes it looks like taking a day off without feeling guilty.
Sometimes it looks like saying no to something so you can say yes to yourself.
One of the lessons midlife has taught me is that success and joy are not the same thing. Many women spend years chasing achievement while quietly neglecting their own happiness. Accomplishments matter. Purpose matters. Meaningful work matters.
Joy matters too.
The truth is that life is happening right now.
Not when the to-do list is complete.
Not when the next milestone is reached.
Not when the circumstances are perfect.
Right now.
This season of life has taught me that there will always be work to do and responsibilities to manage. There should also be room for laughter, rest, adventure, connection, and the simple things that make us feel alive.
If you have been waiting for permission to choose joy, consider this your reminder.
Stop saving joy for someday.
Someday has a way of staying on the calendar forever.
Today is already here.
